Can you help? Sophie continues her research into the history of florcloths and linoleum, and would like to hear from anyone who knows anything on this subject. The picture shows a painted sailcloth mat discovered at Port Maitland, Nova Scotia dating from c. 1910. The picture was kindly sent me by Des Pawson of the Museum of Knots & Sailor's Ropework in Ipswich. The connection between floorcloths and the nautical is strong, and sailors would often while away long hours at sea painting floorcloths. | ||
